jklein 21.1 3 In order to manage the Clients in your network effectively, they must first be detected. There are different procedures depending on the operating system. For Clients with a Windows operating system, you can use the ACMP Agent. To detect Clients on other operating systems, such as Linux or macOS, you can use the Unix Agent. For certain special cases (e.g., if a client is not on the network), you can also use continuing methods.

jklein 21.1 7 If no data is available yet, all systems should be inventoried in ACMP if possible. By installing the ACMP Agent on your Windows Clients, you can initialize data collection using various scanners.

jklein 21.1 9 Please note that [[Server virtualization>>doc:.Server-Virtualisierungen.WebHome]] on a physical machine is also included in the data inventory, so that the physical device/server can be correctly mapped to the virtual server. This means that not only physical machines are listed in ACMP in the form of inventory data, but also virtual machines with the correct mapping to the physical hosts.

In addition, this client logs on to the server at adjustable intervals and requests any unprocessed jobs. These jobs include, among other things, querying the client values again, updating the client, and executing certain actions, known as Client Commands.

jklein 21.1 24 The Unix Agent is the further development of the Linux and Mac Agents. With the Unix Agent, it is possible to inventory and manage Clients with Linux or macOS operating systems. The Unix Agent can be deployed and installed without Python using a Client Command provided. Manageability depends on the version of the Unix Agent used to inventory the Clients.

43 The [[OneScanClient>>path:/bin/view/ACMP/68/Arbeiten%20mit%20der%20ACMP%20Console/Clients%20erfassen/OneScanClient/]] is a program that can be started on the client without installation. This can be done, for example, via a login script. The ACMP - OneScanClient determines all data on the machine once, forwards it to the server, which stores the data in the database, and then terminates.

51 The [[Agentless Scanner>>path:/bin/view/ACMP/68/Arbeiten%20mit%20der%20ACMP%20Console/Clients%20erfassen/Agentless%20Scanner/]] is able to detect Clients via Active Directory. This procedure is useful if clients cannot be detected due to network policies, such as multiple network segments without NetBIOS support. In this case, the Agentless Scanner can read the basic data of the clients from an Active Directory and execute a WMI remote scan based on this data. The Agentless Scanner also includes the XML Importer, which is used to detect Linux and Mac OS clients.
