Distribute Managed Software
There are essentially two ways to distribute software packages to your Clients:
Distribution Using the Rollout | As soon as you roll out a new client, you can use the Rollout Template to directly assign the packages to it so that they are deployed. |
Distribution via Managed Software Jobs | If your client has already been rolled out, the packages are deployed via the Jobs. Distribution is a condition for the client to receive the job. It is not enough to simply subscribe to the packages. |
Optionally, you can add a Managed Software package to a Job Collection and then start the deployment via a Rollout or a software job (see below).
Deploying Managed Software During a Rollout
When you roll out new Clients, you can use OS Deployment to directly specify the Job Collections that contain your managed software packages - these will be included in the Rollout Template and subsequently deployed. You can read here how to include the Job Collections in the Rollout Template.
Distribution via Managed Software Jobs
Using the various Managed Software Jobs, you can choose to execute the actions either manually or automatically. There are four ways to create and execute Managed Software jobs:
- execute the jobs manually,
- integrate jobs into a container,
- publish jobs in the acmp Kiosk, or
create jobs as Job Collections.
| Distribution Method | Description | |
| Execute Jobs Manually | A manual job can be executed at any time from the ribbon bar via the Query Actions tab. To do this, select a query that includes the Client to which you ultimately want to assign the job. Read more here: Execute a Job manually. | |
| Embed Jobs in Containers | Container jobs can be used to perform a variety of actions: For example, you can automatically install software packages on Clients for the first time and then keep them up to date with updates. You can also uninstall software using Managed Software jobs. See the chapter „Execute a Container job“ for step-by-step instructions. | |
| Publish Jobs in the acmp Kiosk | By enabling jobs in acmp Kiosk, you allow your users to initiate certain actions with software packages on their own (e.g., installation or updates). You can also grant users permission to manage the respective parameters of a software package. See „acmp Kiosk“ chapter for more information. | |
Create Jobs as a Job Collection
| In Job Collections, you can define a sequence of multiple jobs. For more detailed information, see the chapter Job Collections. Once you have set up a Job Collection with Managed Software Jobs, you can execute the same actions as you would with individual jobs. Job Collections can, among other things, be executed manually or integrated into containers. Additionally, you can configure further configurations and define system jobs. Using the acmp Kiosk, you can share the Job Collections and integrate them into a rollout template so that the Job Collection is distributed along with the Client during the rollout. |
