How are products and classifications related in ACMP?
The wizard gives you the opportunity to select the products and classification for Windows Update Management and configure them for your own environment for the first time. It is not advisable to blindly tick all products, and you should also carefully select the available options for the classifications. But how are the two components related?
The classifications filter the type of updates (e.g. critical or security-related updates) for the selected Microsoft products. The available updates, which you can later distribute via Windows Update Collections and containers, are therefore based on the selection you made earlier. Only the updates for the selected categories will be made available to you.
This dependency is explained briefly below, showing how it can look in practice using example products and classifications:
First, select the desired product that is relevant for the updates. For a better overview, only one is deliberately selected here ("Windows 11"). Tick the entry and continue by clicking Next > in the wizard. You must then determine which classifications you want for the updates, i.e. which types of updates you want to obtain from the server in future and then make available to the clients. In this example, all types of updates and upgrades are selected.

Continue working through the wizard until you have exited it, then start the setup download on the Windows Update Management home page (Patch Management > Windows Update Management > Dashboard > Status of WUM jobs). Once the download has been completed successfully, switch to the Updates tab. Now group the entries in the grid by products and classification and open the Windows 11 row, where you will see entries listed for the Security Updates and Upgrades classifications.
